The sports broadcasting profession has lost one of its greats. Dick Enberg has passed away at the age of 82 in California.

For over 50 years, if there was a big sports event on a TV network, Dick Enberg was on the call.

42 seasons of NFL football, including 10 Super Bowls. 28 years of calling Wimbledon tennis. 15 NCAA college basketball Final Fours. MLB World Series. Rose Bowls.

His last broadcasting duties had him calling San Diego Padres game until he retired after the 2016 season.

NOTE: Among Dick Enberg's connections to Maine...Former UMaine baseball player Mark Sweeney was a broadcast partner with Enberg on Padres TV...In 2006, UMaine had a special tribute event honoring the late Larry Mahaney and Enberg was the special guest. Mahaney and Enberg played a lot of tennis together over the years.
