Maine Maritime Academy has hired Piedmont College assistant coach Dan McNeely as new head coach of men's basketball. He takes over from Dave Mushnick who stepped down after last season.

Piedmont is a DIvision III school in Georgia. McNeely has also coached at Manchester College in Indiana.

He played his college ball at Wittenberg University and was part of a national runner-up team in 2005-06.

McNeely completed his Masters Degree at The Citadel.

"Coach McNeely is a thoughtful leader with all of the right values and will prove to be an excellent mentor for our basketball players," said Director of Athletics, Steve Peed. "The committee most definitely had its work cut out for it with a tremendously deep and talented pool of candidates. In the end, Coach McNeely clearly distinguished himself from that group. He is the right fit for our team, our department, the Academy and the community. We look forward to welcoming Dan and his family into the Maine Maritime family." -  MMA Press Release

In Castine, McNeely takes over a program that finished with a 5-20 overall record (2-16 NAC).
