On his 111th and final pitch of the night, Red Sox ace Chris Sale struck out Maine's Ryan Flaherty on a slider for his 300th strikeout of the season.

It has been 18 years since a pitcher an American League pitcher has struck out 300 - Sox Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez in 1999. That year Pedro had 313 Ks.

Sale was brillliant beating the Baltimore Orioles 9-0, striking out 13, no walks and just four hits in eight innings of work.
