Mulligan Solid In Buffalo Debut

Former Husson U and UMaine tight end Matt Mulligan saw his first action as a Buffalo Bills player last night, a 25-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Mulligan caught two passes, good for five yards.

He is best known as a blocking tight end so it's best to look at Buffalo rushing numbers to see effectiveness on guys like Mulligan. The Bills ran the ball 45 times for 206 yards, averaging about 4.6 yards per carry.

Maybe That Dude Could Start: Veteran Matthew Mulligan subbed in with the first-team offense as a second tight end across from Charles Clay. A favorite of Rex Ryan's, Mulligan is a stocky blocking tight end who could earn a role in Greg Roman's run-heavy offense. Mulligan was overaggressive at times Friday night; he was called for an offensive pass interference penalty (for blocking downfield) and also was penalized for a false start.

The Mulligan story is interesting because he never football in high school at PVHS in Howland and began his college athletic career at Husson as a basketball player.

He is now playing for his 10th NFL team and has been in the league since 2008.
