Vanderbilt and Virginia play tonight in a winner-take-all game three for the College World Series championship live on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket.

But, did you know this stat?

The UMaine Black Bears have made more College World Series appearances in Omaha than either Vandy or Virginia?

It's true.

Now, sure it has been 29 years since the Black Bears played at old Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha and the path to get to the CWS has changed a great deal. But, Maine's 7 trips surpasses Vanderbilt's 3 appearances and Virginia's 4.

UMaine's first time in the CWS was 1964 Joe Ferris, Stump Merrill and coach Jack Butterfield. That was a 3rd place finish and a MVP award for Ferris.

The Black Bears also went to Omaha in 1976, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1986.

Texas has the most CWS appearances with 35.

USC has won the most titles with 12.

NOTE:  The Vanderbilt vs Virginia CWS title game on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket begins at 7:45pm.
