Pats To Sign DB Gilmore To Deal
The New England Patriots are set to sign defensive back Stephon Gilmore to contract once the next NFL year begins at 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal is being reported to be $14 million annually for five seasons.
Gilmore is a five year NFL veteran, playing his entire career with AFC East rival Buffalo since 2012. He was drafted 10th overall in the 2012 draft out of South Carolina by the Bills. In 2016 he was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster and compiled a career high five interceptions for the Bills. He has 14 interceptions in his career and 198 total tackles.
Gilmore, along with AJ Bouye of the Houston Texans were reportedly viewed as the top free agent trackers at the corner position this off-season. He will likely replace Logan Ryan, who is expected to leave via free agency.
The deal cannot become official until after the 4 p.m. mark when the next year on the NFL calendar officially begins.
