The struggling Boston Red Sox have made a player move, designating catcher Blake Swihart for assignment and calling up catcher Sandy Leon from Pawtucket.

When a team makes this move the a player is removed from the 40-man roster and must be traded, released or put on waivers within seven days.

Swihart was hitting .231 with a homer and four RBI in 12 games this season.

Leon has been a favorite catcher among many of the Sox pitchers. He cleared waivers at the end of spring training and opted to report to the PawSox. He is hitting only .120 but the team has the best ERA in the International League at 3.26.

NOTE: The Sox also recalled RHP Erasmo Ramirez from Pawtucket...Live coverage of the Sox vs Yankees tonight begins at 5:30pm on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket.
