Cano HR Lifts AL To 2-1 [VIDEO]
Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano hit a 10th-inning home run off Cubs’ closer Wade Davis, and the American League beat the National League, 2-1, at the 2017 MLB All-Star Game in Miami on Tuesday night. Cano received the game’s most valuable player award as a result of his game-winning solo shot.
Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel got the win — the AL’s fifth straight in the Midsummer Classic — while Davis took the loss.
Indians’ reliever Andrew Miller came on for the save in the bottom of the 10th, retiring Dodgers rookie phenom Cody Bellinger on strikes after issuing a two-out walk to Reds slugger Joey Votto.
It was the first MLB All-Star Game to go to extra-innings since 2008. The victory left the two leagues tied with 43 all-time victories in the series.
The National League forced extra innings thanks to a solo home run by Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina off Twins’ starter Ervin Santana in the sixth inning.
The American League opened scoring in the fifth when Twins third baseman Miguel Sano blooped a single to right field off Dodgers’ pitcher Alex Wood, scoring Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop who had doubled earlier in the frame.
