A stinker of a start for Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox. A 12-4 to the Seattle Mariners on MLB Opening Day.

Sale's first start since signing a $145-milliion-dollar deal was a short one. Three innings, seven runs, six hits including three home runs. That ties the most he's given up in a Sox uniform.

The bullpen wasn't much help. Hector Velaquez and Heath Hembree combined to give up three runs in three innings of work. Tyler Thornburg gave up two runs in his one inning.

The Mariners pounded out 12 hits. Tick Beckham had two HRs. Domingo Santana had three hits and four RBI.

Mookie Betts had three hits for the Sox. JD Martinez had two.
