12th Annual Smokey Lawrence Memorial Preseason Basketball Tournament – November 25

The 12th Annual Smokey Lawrence Memorial Preseason Basketball Tournament featuring Brewer, John Bapst and Orono will take place on Tuesday, November 25th at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Schedule

• 2 p.m. - John Bapst Boys vs. Brewer
• 3:15 p.m. - John Bapst Girls vs. Brewer
• 4:30 p.m. - Brewer Boys vs. Orono
• 5:45 p.m. - Brewer Girls vs. Orono
• 7 p.m. - Orono Boys vs. John Bapst
• 8:45 p.m. - Orono Girls vs. John Bapst.

If you didn't have the pleasure of knowing Frederick "Smokey" Lawrence, you missed knowing a great person. He died in 2012 at the age of 72. He was a long-time referee of football and basketball and a baseball and softball umpire. In his later years, you could always find him at the official's table of a local high school either running the time clock or scoreboard during basketball season.

This tournament is held in his memory annually before the start of the basketball season.
