Bangor golfer Jesse Speirs has earned full exemption status for this year's PGA Tour - China. It means he gets a starting spot in every tournament this season.

Speirs finished in 6th place at a grueling 72-hole qualifying tournament that was completed on Sunday.

The PGA Tour - China season begins in March and there will be 14 tournaments over the course of the next few months. This tour is one of three international developmental tours (PGA Tour-Canada, PGA Tour-Latin America) for golfers to earn a spot on the Web.com Tour. That tour can lead players to the PGA Tour.

Two years ago, Speirs earned partial exemption on the Web.com Tour and competed in 17 events. He did not earn a spot last season.

Speirs is a former Maine Junior Amateur champion, a Maine State Amateur champion and a winner of the Greater Bangor Open Tournament.
