Stoddard 4 RBI, Comrades Pound Vermont 15-4 [SCORES]
Rain in the Worcester, Massachusetts area has pushed back games at the Northeast Regional American Legion Baseball Tournament. Tourney officials have scheduled games at two sites today to try to get back on schedule.
The Coffee News Bangor Comrades jumped Vermont for nine runs in the first inning and cruised to a 15-4 opening day win at the American Legion Northeast Regional in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The game was stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.
In Bangor's nine run 1st, Ethan Stoddard had a double and a 2-run home run. He finished with a 3-for-4 day and four RBI.
The Comrades added runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th innings. In total, the Maine state champs pounded out 15 hits.
Tyler Parke, Zach Cowperthwaite, Zach Ireland and Jesse Colford all had two hits.
On the mound, Gary Farnham got the win, pitching seven innings, only one of the four Vermont runs were earned. He gave up five hits, two walks and struck out 4.
The day one regional win puts the Comrades overall record at 19-6 and the next opponent is either Woonsocket, RI or Braintree, MA tomorrow at 4:30pm.
