Tough Start For MMA Football

SUNY-Maritime came to Castine Saturday afternoon and spoiled Maine Maritime Academy's opening day, beating the Mainers 36-8.

The Privateers scored three touchdowns and a field goal to lead 22-0 at the half.

After neither team could score in the third quarter, SUNY added another touchdown to lead 29-0.

That's when the Mariners scored their only TD, a Bailey Sawyer to Cole McDaniel 69-yard pass play.

The Privateers scored the last TD of the day to make the final score 36-8.

MMA's sophomore QB Bailey Sawyer was 9-for-24, 189 yards with a TD and an interception.

But SUNY outgained the Mainers in total offense, 444 to 298.

MMA plays in the 46th Admiral's Cup game at Mass Maritime next week.
