The University of Maine baseball team opened the season in grand style by going on the road to Clemson and beating the Tigers 4-3.

With the game tied in the top of the 7th inning Brett Chappell came up with an rbi triple to drive in the game winning run. Maine got the benefit of the Tigers right fielder losing the ball in the early evening sky on what should have been a routing fly ball.

Chappell finished with 2 hits and 2 rbi while Tyler Schwanz and Jonathan Salcedo each drove in a run.

Connor Johnson pitched one inning of relief to get the win. Justin Courtney got the no-decision after pitching the first 5 innings where he allowed 3 hits and 3 runs while striking out 8. None of the runs were earned runs as the Bears defense committed 4 errors.

The two teams will play another game on Saturday before wrapping up the 3-game set on Sunday.
