On a day when the UMaine offense was as cold as the weather, the Bears dropped a 27-22 decision to Elon in the final home game of the season.Lack of production on the offense has been  a problem all season and it reared its ugly head again on Saturday. Drew Belcher who won the starting quarterback job a week ago was benched after the teams second possession of the day in favor of Dan Collins. The change did little to effect the final outcome.

Maine turned the ball over three times with two fumbles and an interception as they fell behind the Phoenix 17-0. The Bears came close to tying the game after Collins hit Jordan Dunn for a touchdown midway through the 4th quarter. However the extra point was missed and Elon took their next possession and marched down the field for the clinching touchdown.

The loss drops the Bears record to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play. They will close out the season next week at New Hampshire.

Below are other Maine college scores from Saturday.

  • Husson 20   Mt. Ida 7
  • Maine Maritime 17   Nichols 8
  • Bowdoin 35   Colby 13
  • Hamilton 14 Bates 0
