On a night when Hermon High School senior Isaac Varney joined the 1000 point club, his Hawks knocked the Caribou Vikings from the ranks of the unbeaten.

The 46-42 thriller was played in front of a sold out crowd late Saturday afternoon. Fans got their money's worth.

The game was tied 8-8 after one quarter. The Vikings led by eight at the half and by two points at the end of three.

Hermon point guard Wyatt Gogan sank a three point basket with 1:31 left in the game to give the Hawks a one point lead (43-42) that they would never give up.

Varney had 15 points and Zach Tubbs added 11 to lead Hermon.

Parker Deprey had 18 and Alex Bouchard had 17 for Caribou.

The win moves Hermon to 11-2 while the Vikings drop to 11-1.

The loss snapped a 27 game win Caribou win streak, dating back to last season.

The Hermon girls made it a Saturday sweep of Caribou with a 60-37 win. The Hawks improve to 11-1 and remain the top seed in Class B North.

The Vikings drop to 4-9.
