Falmouth's Charlie Fay became the first Bates College player to be drafted into Major League Lacrosse on Sunday when the Boston Cannons picked him in the 7th round of the MLL draft.

Fay was the 5th selection by the Cannons and the 59th overall player picked in the collegiate draft.

The MLL is a 9-team league that plays games from April through early August. The Boston Cannons are in a tie for first place with an 8-6 record.

Fay won NESCAC Player of the Year and First Team All American as he led the Bobcats to a school record 16 wins. Bates spent time as the nation's #1 team in Division III.

Fay scored 167 goals in 57 career games at Bates.

NOTE: The NCAA Division I, II and III National Championship Lacrosse games are being played today at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
