The UMaine Black Bears scored three times in the top of the first inning and then never scored again as they drop their America East opener 5-3 to the Hartford Hawks.

The Bears are 4-18 (0-1) while the Hawks improve to 3-14 (2-2).

Maine scored their three runs in the first inning on RBI hits from Jeremy Pena and Hernen Sardinas.

It stayed 3-0 until the Hawks scored one in the 5th inning and then a big 4-run 7th inning.

The Black Bears threatened in the 9th but could not push across any runs.
