EMITL: Kohtala Smashes Long Jump Record
Orono High School's Camille Kohtala had a record breaking performance and the Red Riots girls team captured another Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League championship.
Kohtala smashed the Long Jump record with a distance of 19-feet 4-inches. That is over a foot more than she jumped earlier in the indoor season. Only Kate Hall has jumped a longer distance in Maine high school history. And, track observers were saying it's the 7th longest jump in the country this year.
Kohtala was not done though. She won the 200M and 400M events in the small school division.
Hampden Academy's Helen Shearer won the 1-Mile event (5:24.58) and the 2-Mile event (11:25.07) in the large school division.
The Bangor girls won the large school division with event wins from Naomi Noack (55M), McKenzie Lambert (400M), Sofia Wittmann (Pole Vault), Alyssa Elliott (Long Jump),
