As the Red Sox get ready to open a series with the Baltimore Orioles, the Birds Maine connection, Ryan Flaherty, is back with the club after a brief stay in the minors.

He started the season on the Orioles roster but was sent down to triple-A in early May after struggling at the plate. Flaherty was recalled on May 29th and has played in 10 games for the Birds.

Coming into this Sox series, Flaherty is hitting .172 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI. Manager Buck Showalter likes his versatility and has started several games at second base while Alexi Casilla sits with an injured finger.

Flaherty is a former standout at Deering HS in Portland. He is the son of USM baseball coach Ed Flaherty.
