If you are on the fence about buying a Jeep in New England...JUMP! Jump on the buying side. I have owned two Jeeps in my 10 years of being a "Jeep guy." Now, as much as I love driving it around New England, there are some things they do not warn you about.

How to Take Off a Jeep Wrangler Top

Taking the top off a Jeep is relatively easy, especially with practice. What they don't warn you about, only as a hard-top Jeep owner, is where to put it. You cannot just put the top on the ground.

The corners of the top would get scratched and damaged. The best way, from what I have seen on the internet, is a hoist in a garage. You can attach the top to a few hooks and ratchet it up safely.

With unpredictable weather in New England, this process of taking the hard top on and off can be frustrating. If you have 5 sunny days in a row, it is well worth it...but that doesn't happen too often here.

(Pro tip - always carry an emergency rain fly.) A quick thunderstorm passes in New England, and the rain cover can go on in about 30 seconds.

How to Take the Doors off of a Jeep Wrangler

Taking the doors off a Jeep is the easiest thing to do to feel the breeze. The door has two pins that slide into the body of the car. So, with the ease of taking the doors off, rather than the top, this is the best way to "Jeep" with the unpredictable weather in New England.

BUT - there are two downsides to the doors. 1. You lose your mirrors (so you need to buy attachment ones). 2. Like the top, you cannot place these on the ground. You also have to build a rack, or buy something, to hold the doors while you drive.

Are Jeeps Good to Own in New England?

I want to reiterate how much I love driving a Jeep around New England. Every road is perfect for a cruise in the Jeep. My wife and I will drive it up the coast, soaking in the salty air with the top and doors off. We drive through the White Mountains, small town downtowns...the Jeep is perfect for it all.

Winter driving is a breeze. I have never had an issue in the snow in 10 years with either of my Jeeps. The hard tops hold the heat better and handle wind better... but without a doubt...winters are safe, and the summers are fun!

Buy the damn Jeep.
