The Maine Moose 14U hockey team returns from New York as USA Hockey national champion. It is a first for the Moose 14-year-old and under Maine program.

Moose players come from all over the state. Bill Desmarais is head coach.

After going 3-0 in pool play, the Maine team rolled to the title with a quarterfinal win over Florida Everblades, a semi-final win over Providence, RI and then a 4-0 championship win over the Gulf Coast Flames from Tampa, Florida.

The Tier II 14U tournament was held last weekend in Buffalo, NY.

Goalie Josh Girard from Clifton stopped all 24 shots in the championship game. Other players from the greater Bangor area include, Cole Greeley from Levant, Owen Cross from Hampden, Garrett Courtney from Bangor and Logan Beckwith and Stevie Gilbert from Bar Harbor.

NOTE: The Maine Moose 18U team also won the championship in its division. That tournament was played in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
