BREAKING NEWS: The UMaine women's basketball season ended Saturday evening after losing to Texas 83-54 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Maine finishes the year 23-10. Texas is now 27-6 and meets Arizona State in the next round of the NCAAs.

The Black Bears struggled all night trying to stay with the athletic Longhorns.

Texas outscored Maine 23-8 in the first quarter by shooting 77% and out rebounding the Bears 12-2. The rebounding story would only get worse.

By halftime the score was 45-18 as the Longhorns had a 25-4 edge in rebounds. Maine shot just 26% from the field.

Lashonn Higgs had 11 and Ariel Atkins had 10 to lead Texas. Fanny Wadling had six for Maine.

It didn't get any better for Maine in the second half. The Bears finished getting beat on the boards 43-12. The 12 rebounds in a NCAA record low.

Tanesha Sutton finished with 16 to lead Maine. Julie Brosseau had 11.

Texas had three players in double-digit scoring.
