Runs were hard to come by at the season opening twinbill at Kessock Softball Field at UMaine Wednesday afternoon. The Black Bears and UMass Lowell Riverhawks ended with a split of the America East Conference doubleheader.

GAME 1: UMaine pitcher Annie Kennedy and UMass Lowell pitcher Lovina Capria were locked in a 0-0 game through all seven innings. Finally, in the top of the 8th inning, the Riverhawks got a two-out RBI double from Sydney Barker to score the game's only run. UMass Lowell wins it 1-0.

GAME 2: Another pitcher's duel in the circle between Maine's Kyleigh O'Donnell and UMass pitcher Kaycee Talcik. Another scoreless game until the 6th inning when the Black Bears scored three times.Maddie Decker and Alyssa Derrick got RBIs and Maine wins 3-0.

The Black Bears are now 5-2 in AE, 14-16 overall. UMass Lowell is 6-2 and 12-18.
