Former Orono High School standout runner Hannah Steelman is a USA gold medal winner in the 3,000meter steeplechase event.

Steelman competed in the NACAC U-23 Championships (North American, Central American, Caribbean) in Mexico over the weekend. Athletes from 31 countries competed in the track and field events.

Steelman ran the steeplechase event in 10.21.88 to win gold. Back in June, she finished in third place at the NCAA Division I CHampionships and was named All-American.

Steelman will be a junior at Wofford College in South Carolina in the fall.

She won numerous team and individual state titles in her time at Orono.
