‘Swisher’ Mitchell Passes Away At 91 [VIDEO]

The Maine sports scene has lost one of its greatest ambassadors - John 'Swisher' Mitchell has passed away at the age of 91.

Mitchell, the senior point guard for Waterville High School in 1944, led the Panthers to a New England Basketball Championship.

He had an outstanding college career at the University of Rhode Island.

And then for 44 year years, Mitchell was an assistant coach for Colby College basketball.

In 2014, 'Swish' was inducted into the inaugural class of the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame.

A year ago, on his 90th birthday, many former players returned to Mayflower Hill in Waterville to honor Mitchell and to endow the assistant coach position in his name.
