A tough season for the UMaine baseball team turned even tougher on Sunday when pitcher Cody Laweryson took a perfect game into the 7th inning against Stony Brook, only to lose the game 2-0.

The loss gives the Seawolves a three game series sweep.

Laweryson retired the first 18 batters he faced and took a perfect game into the 7th inning. The Seawolves did get a basehit in the 7th but a strkeout-throwout play left Laweryson facing the minimum through 7 innings.

But UMaine hitters were not doing anything against Stony Brook starter Bret Clarke who pitched 8 shutout innings.

In the 8th for the Seawolves, the first to batters reached base and a suicide squeeze bunt and a sacrifice fly scored two runs.

The Black Bears managed just four hits all day and were shutout.

Laweryson tool the loss, going 7 2/3 innings, giving up the two runs on five hits and walk. He struck out nine.

Maine falls to 1-4 In America East (2-21 overall). Stony Brook is 6-0 and 14-8.

NOTE: After 23 road games, the Black Bears finally get to play at home next Saturday. An America East series with UMBC.
