As UMaine baseball begins play this week in the America East Tournament, the former coach of the Black Bears, Steve Trimper, is leading his Stetson University Hatters into the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) as a #2 seed.

And, the conference tournament is being held at the Stetson ballpark (Melching Field at Conrad Park) this year.

The ASUN tourney field includes top seed Jacksonville, FGCU, North Florida, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb.

Trimper left Maine after 11 seasons in December to take over the Stetson program in Deland, Florida. His top assistant, NIck Derba, is the interim head coach at UMaine this spring.

Trimper's Hatters finished the regular season with a 27-27 overall record, 15-6 in the ASUN Conference. That puts Stetson as the #2 seed and the Hatters will open the postseason with a game vs the #5 seed Kennesaw State Wednesday at 7pm.

Just as the winner of the America East Tournament moves on to a NCAA regional, so too will the ASUN tourney winner.

In his final season of coaching Stetson a year ago, coach Pete Dunn led the Hatters the ASUN championship from the #6 seed.
