UM Football Rolls Past Tribe
The Black Bears picked up a third straight victory with a 23-6 win over William & Mary on Saturday afternoon. With the win, UMaine is now 4-3 on the season.
QB Chris Ferguson completed 13 out of 22 passes for 192 yards and had one touchdown while Josh Mack ran for 99 yards and a score.
Maine would stop an initial drive by the Tribe that took the ball into the red zone before a big interception on a third down as Darrius Hart came up with the pick. W&M would put up the first points in the contest by way of a Kris Hooper field goal from 41 yards. The Black Bears would tally 13 unanswered points to end the half by way of two Brandon Briggs field goals and a touchdown pass from Ferguson to Drew Belcher from 9 yards out in the final minute of the second quarter.
William & Mary received the ball to start the half as junior Tommy McKee entered the game for the Tribe and took the team down the field into the Maine red zone. Hooper would miss a 34 yard field goal to keep the score in favor of the Black Bears by 13-3. The kicker would hit another three points through the uprights on the team's next drive, this time from 25 yards out. Maine would add on to their lead in the fourth after Mack pushed home a touchdown from two yards out to make the Black Bear advantage 20-6 after Briggs hit the PAT. Briggs would tack on a 23 yard field goal on the next drive to increase the Maine advantage to a three score contest.
The Black Bears will be back in conference action again next weekend as they will have a home game against Delaware at Fitzpatrick Stadium on Saturday afternoon. William & Mary will host New Hampshire next Saturday in their next match-up.
