UM Men Get First Win, Women Win In Miami
The UMaine men's basketball got its first win of the season and the women's team won its game at the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament.
UMaine Men 78 Quinnipiac 72: Coach Bob Walsh and his Bears get their first win, beating Quinnipiac in Connecticut. Junior college transfer Vernon Lowndes Jr. had one of those shooting days - 7-for-7 from the field, 5-for-5 from the three-point line. Lowndes scored 20 points and hauled down nine rebounds in 25 minutes of play. As a team, the Black Bears shot 53% from the field and 56% on threes...Aaron Calixte added 18 points...The 1-5 Bears play at Georgetown Tuesday night.
UMaine Women 75 Kennesaw St. 72: Coach Amy Vachon and her Black Bears doubled up their opponent 42-21 in the first half and didn't stop scoring. Fanny Wadling had a career high 17 points, Julie Brosseau scored 16 and earned a spot of the all-tourney team. Tanesha Sutton had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The 4-2 Black Bears head to Toledo next on November 30th.
