UMaine Baseball Lose Late To Bonnies
The University of Maine baseball team needed only nine innings, but lost to the St Bonaventure side on Tuesday. The Black Bears lost the game 4-3 down in Del Ray, Florida. The game was the first one of the three game series that did not reach extra innings.
UMaine was led on the mound by Nick Silva who went seven innings, allowing just one lone run with four hits and three walks. In the outing the righty struck out four batters in the contest and received a no decision. Eddie Emerson pitched one inning, but allowed a walk and a hit in the ninth before leaving with both runners inherited laterscoring. Jeff Galinas would come in relief and surrendered two hits and a walk to seal the win for the Bonnies.
Ryan MacCarrick singled to centerfield for the game winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning to get the Bonnies' second win of the year. The Black Bears were led by Danny Casals, Christopher Bec, and Jonathan Bennett who each had a hit and run batted in during the contest. Both teams tallied seven hits in the contest.
With the loss, the Black Bears moved to 5-5 on the season and will next play Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton on Wednesday afternoon. Chris Murphy is schedule to make his 2017 debut in the contest for the Bears. At the Del Ray Invitational the Bears went 5-2 over the Bonnies, Central Connecticut State, and South Dakota State.
