The nationally ranked Mississippi State women's basketball team beat up on the UMaine Black Bears Sunday afternoon, 83-43, down in Starkville, Mississippi.

Depending on which national poll you look at, the Bulldogs are either #9 or #5 in the country. And now they are 11-0.

Maine turned the ball over 27 times. Miss State shot 50% from the floor while the Black Bears shot just 33%.

6-foot-7 center Teaira McCowan led the Bulldogs with 18 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes of play.

Blanca Millian was the only Maine player in double-digit scoring with 13.

The Black Bears drop to 6-5 and the schedule doesn't get any easier. The Bears play at Duke Tuesday night. Former UMaine coach Joanne Palombo McCallie is Blue Devils coach.

The UMaine men's basketball team stepped into the Atlantic 10 to play the St. Joseph's University Hawks. The Black Bears lost 72-59 and fall to 3-9.

Neither team shot the ball very well but Maine committed 17 turnovers. St. Joes just three.

And, Maine shot just two free throws all day. The Hawks were 12-for-21.

Isaiah White led the Black Bears in scoring with 21. Aaron Calixte had 14.

The game was the first of four road games for Maine between now at December 30th.
