
USM Alive In LEC Tourney, 8-4 Win Over RIC
The University of Southern Maine baseball team lives to play another day at the Little East Conference Tournament after beating Rhode Island College 8-4 today in Gorham.
The Huskies are the #1 seed but faced a must-win situation after losing to #6 Keene State 5-4 yesterday.
USM used the long ball to beat RIC. Matt Bender hit a 3-run home run and Kip Richard hit a solo shot to produce half of the Huskies runs.
Andrew Olszak had four hits and a RBI as USM pounded out 14 total hits.
Four different pitchers combined to hold off RIC. The Anchormen are eliminated from the tourney.
USM improves to 29-10 and plays a third round game Friday at 12:30pm against #2 UMass Boston or #3 UMass Dartmouth.
The winner of the tournament gets the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III New England Regional next week.
