The University of Southern Maine baseball team lives to play another day at the Little East Conference Tournament after beating Rhode Island College 8-4 today in Gorham.

The Huskies are the #1 seed but faced a must-win situation after losing to #6 Keene State 5-4 yesterday.

USM used the long ball to beat RIC. Matt Bender hit a 3-run home run and Kip Richard hit a solo shot to produce half of the Huskies runs.

Andrew Olszak had four hits and a RBI as USM pounded out 14 total hits.

Four different pitchers combined to hold off RIC. The Anchormen are eliminated from the tourney.

USM improves to 29-10 and plays a third round game Friday at 12:30pm against #2 UMass Boston or #3 UMass Dartmouth.

The winner of the tournament gets the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III New England Regional next week.
