
Waterville, Lewiston Win North Hockey Regionals
The number one seeds in Class A and B high school hockey lived up to their seeding as both Lewiston and Waterville won Northern Maine championships Tuesday night.In Class B the Waterville Purple Panthers beat the two time defending state champion Messalonskee by a 5-2 score.
With the game tied at 1 in the third period the 18-1-1 Panthers exploded for 4 goals and cruise to their first regional title since 2010 when they were a Class A school. They will play the winner of tonight's Gardiner vs. Yarmouth game for the state championship on Saturday.
The Lewiston Blue Devils had no problem taking the Class A North title with a 5-1 win over St. Dom's. at the Colisee in Lewiston. Sam Frechette scored twice for the Devils who claim their first regional title in 3 years.
Lewiston will play Scarborough for the state championship on Saturday. The Red Storm beat Falmouth 1-0 to win the Southern Maine championship.
