87 golfers competing for 24 spots. That's the story at the Waterville CC today as the final qualifier takes place for next month's Maine Amateur Golf Championship.

It's the 100th anniversary Maine Amateur Tournament, to be played at Portland CC from July 9-11.

Other qualifiers have been held at Biddeford-Saco CC and Poland Springs GC. The MSGA also has player exemptions for former champions and top scoring players from last year's tournament.

There will be a new state champ because reigning two-time winner Jack Wyman has turned pro since winning the Maine Amateur at Belgrade Lakes GC last July.
