The Bangor Rams claimed the Class AA North title Friday night with a win over Edward Little at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

The top-seed Bangor held off a late charge by the No. 2 Red Eddies to come away with a 56-52 win and their first regional title since 2011.

Matt Fleming led the Rams with 27 points. Damien Vance had 12 points and Isaac Cummings had 11 points.

Wol Maiwen led the defending state champion Red Eddies with 23 points.

Bangor led by as many as 15 points early in the contest, but the Red Eddies were able to cut the lead to two points at 42-40 in the fourth quarter, and came within five points of the Rams with just 30 seconds to go.

However, Edward Little missed two three-point attempts with time expiring and Bangor was able to make it a three possession game with some key free throws with less than 10 seconds to go.

As expected, it was a close contest and the teams were evenly matched. Bangor played Edward Little three times before Friday night. Bangor won two of those previous meetings and in those three games outscored Edward Little by only three points.

Bangor will meet the South champion for the state title at 9:05 p.m. on Sat., March 2 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
