Maine Maritime Academy football dropped its conference opener, 62-13, to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Saturday afternoon in Castine.

Both teams have the Mariners nickname and play in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

USMMA (Mariners) jumped on the MMA (Mariners) early and often, scoring 28 points in the first quarter and another 21 in the second quarter.

USMMA racked up 485 yards of rushing offense and 600 total yards of offense. Maxwell Michaels led the ground game with 126 rushing yards.

MMA totaled just 274. QB Nikolas Moquin threw for 144 yards.

The Mariners drop to 0-4 and plays at WPI next week. USMMA improves to 2-1.
