Brandon 3 TDs, Husson Win ECFC Opener 35-21

The Husson Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead in their ECFC conference opener and then had to survive some anxious moments to finally beat SUNY-Maritime 35-21.

The victory gets Husson back to .500 overall (2-2) and 1-0 in the ECFC. The Privateers drop to 2-2 and 0-1.

Eagles QB Cory Brandon threw three touchdown passes in the first half. 59-yards to Kyle Gaudet, 11-yards to Tyler Halls and then another 14-yard TD pass to Gaudet.

Add in an 83-yard punt return for a TD by Quan Soyini and the Eagles had a 27-14 lead at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, SUNY-Martime made things interesting. A Thomas Wright to Matt Cebulski touchdown play made to 27-1 with nine minutes left.

And then with five minutes left, the Privateers were called for a penalty for roughing the Husson punter. The Eagles cashed in with a TD run moments later by Miece Loureiro to make it a 35-21 final.

Brandon finished the day 15-for-30, 257 yards, 3 TDs and no interceptions. Loureiro was the top rusher, 30 carries and 127 yards.

Privateers QB Thomas Wright was 15-for-30, 278 yards, 3 TDs and one interception.

Husson returns home to host Dean College Friday night at 7pm in the second ECFC game on the schedule.
