The Central Aroostook Panthers held off a young Jonesport-Beals team in a Monday afternoon Class D North quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

After the game was tied at halftime and close after three quarters, the Panthers (13-6) took the lead in the fourth quarter earned the 54-46 win over the Royals (11-8).

Sophomore Ben Thomas led the Panthers with 18 points. Senior captain Zach Crouch added 13 points in the win.

Junior Isaiah Faulkingham scored 15 points for the young Royals, whose roster features only two seniors.

It was the first trip to the new Cross Insurance Center for Jonesport-Beals, which claimed its last state title (of 10 in its history) in 2012.

The Panthers have had their fair share of success in the tournament, as well, with six state titles.
