Countdown To Cup Debut For Theriault
Fort Kent's Austin Theriault has been waiting a lifetime for this weekend. A chance to get behind the wheel and race in a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. Even better, the Cup race is at London, New Hampshire.
Theriault won the ARCA Series championship in 2017, driving the #52 car owned by Ken Schrader. Theriault dominated the national series, winning seven races and finishing in the top-10 in 19 of the 20 races.
On Sunday, Theriault will drive the #52 Bangor Savings Bank sponsored car, owned by Rick Ware Racing Team.
Theriault is no stranger to NHMS. He raced in Loudon in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the NASCAR Truck Series and the NASCAR K&N Series.
He becomes the first Maine driver to race in the Cup Series since Ricky Craven drove the Joe GIbbs #11 car at Talladega in 2004. Craven is now a race analyst for Fox Sports.
NOTE: Because the #52 RWR car is a NASCAR chartered car, Theriault is guaranteed a sport in the field for Sunday's 3pm Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 Race...First practice session is Friday at 12:15pm and pole qualifying is 4:30pm.
