Creech Misses USGA Mid-Am Match Cut By 1 [SCORES]
Kelsey Chugg, a 26-year-old golfer from Utah making her USGA Mid-Amateur Champiionship Tournament debut, wins the national title with a 3 and 1 victory over Mary Jane Hiestand of Florida.
Chugg was 50th in scoring after two rounds of stroke play and then kept winning in the match play round-of-64 competition Monday through today.
Bangor's Staci Creech missed out on the match play round by one stroke. After shooting rounds of 85 and 76, her score of +17 missed the cut line to get into match play by a single stroke.
This year's tournament was played in Houston, Texas.
Creech, who is the three-time Maine Women's Amateur champion, made the USGA Mid-Amateur Tournament for the second straight year. She lost in the match play round of 64 last year.
The Mid-Amateur Tournament determines the national champion in women's golf for players over 25-years-old.
Portland's John Hayes competed in the men's USGA Mid-Amateur Tournament earlier in the fall.
