The long road for former UMaine goalie Scott Darling has taken him to Carolina and a $16.6 million dollar, four-year deal to be the man with the Hurricanes.

Two weeks ago, the Chicago Blackhawks traded Darling to Carolina for a 3rd round draft pick. The Hurricanes took a chance on the trade because Darling could have become a free agent July 1st.

But, the team worked out the deal and want him to be the #1 goalie (at a salary cap price of $4.15M a year). Darling takes the deal and passing on free agency.

Darling spent two years as a UMaine Black Bear(2008 thru 2010) and turned pro. He wallowed in the minors for years and finally ended up with his hometown Chicago Blackhawks.

For the past three years he has been Corey Crawford's backup, playing in 75 games with a 39-17-9 record and a GAA of 237.
