Former UM Goalie Signs With AHL Providence
Former UMaine goalie Martin Ouellette has been signed to a contract by the Providence Bruins of the AHL and played in his first game Sunday afternoon.
Ouellette made 24 saves on 30 shots as Springfield beat the P-Bruins 6-5.
The 28-year-old Ouellette had been playing in the ECHL this season, first with the Atlanta Gladiators and then the Utah Grizzlies.
The P-Bruins needed an extra goalie because Dan Vladar is up with the Bruins while Tuukka Rask in on the injured reserve list.
Max Lagace is the #1 goalie in Providence. He is 15-6-2 with a 2.43 GAA.
The P-Bruins are in fourth place of the Atlantic Division of the AHL.
Ouellette was a Black Bear from 2010 to 2013. In that 2012-13 season, he started 29 games and went 9-12-8 with a 2.42 GAA and .917 Save Percentage. Ouellette was named to the Hockey East All-Academic team.
He turned pro after that junior season.
NOTE: UMaine's current goalie, Jeremy Swayman is a Boston Bruins draftee. He was selected in the fourth round in 2017 by the B's. Swayman is in his junior year with the Black Bears.
