The defending state champion George Stevens Academy Eagles outgunned Fort Fairfield 20-6 in the fourth quarter to clinch what was a close Class C North final with the Tigers.

The Tigers gave the Eagles all they could handle through three quarters, with the game tied at 39 heading into the fourth quarter. But the Eagles' experience in big games kicked in during the final quarter, and the veteran squad was able to pull away on their way to a 59-45 win.

Junior Taylor Schildroth finished with 26 points. From there it was a balanced attack with Stefan Simmons scoring 11 points, Jarrod Chase scoring 10 points and Max Mattson scoring eight points. Mattson, who's listed as 6-foot-6-inches, was a force in the paint with 12 blocks and 15 rebounds.

For Fort Fairfield (19-2), junior Isaac Cyr had 14 points and senior Christopher Giberson had 10 points.

The state final will feature two undefeated teams with George Stevens and south champ Winthrop both at 21-0. That game will start at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
