Georgia Southern football beat UMaine 26-18 Saturday night down in Statesboro, Georgia but it was anything but easy for the Eagles.

This was the first of two games for Maine against FBS schools and this one meant $325,000 for the UMaine coffers.

After Kenny Doak kicked a 26-yard field goal early in the game, the Georgia Southern triple option offense scored 23 unanswered points.

The fourth quarter comeback for the Bears began with a halfback pass by Earnest Edwards to Devin Young, a 21-yard TD pass play to make it a 23-10 score.

The Eagles kicked a field goal to up the lead to 26-10.

Maine came back with just over two minutes left in the game. A Chris Ferguson to Jaquan Blair 46-yard TD pass. The two-point conversion was good and the Black Bears closed the gap to 26-18.

UMaine tried an on-side kick but it was recovered by Georgia Southern and the Eagles ran out the clock.

NOTE: UMaine QB Chris Ferguson was 23-for-47, 286 yard, a touchdown and an interception...Georgia Southern ran the ball for 395 yards...The Eagles fumbled the ball seven times but lost only one...The Black Bears return home to play their first CAA conference game vs Towson next Saturday.
