The Hobey Baker Award is down to three finalists - UMass defenseman Cale Makar, Harvard defenseman Adam Fox and St. Cloud State defenseman Jimmy Schuldt.

Three defensemen up for the award of best player in college hockey this year.

Only seven defensemen have won the Hobey Baker over the 38 years of the award but the list of finalists ensures that number with jump to eight.

Makar is the Hockey East Player of the Year as a sophomore for UMass. He had helped the Minutemen get to the first Frozen Four Championship in school history. Maker has 16 goals and 32 assists. His plus-minus number is +32.

Fox is a junior had Harvard. He has 48 points in 33 games for the Crimson.

Schuldt is a senior at St. Cloud with 10 goals and 25 assists.

The winner will be announced next Friday, April 12th at the Frozen Four Weekend.

NOTE: UMaine hockey has had two Hobey Baker Award winners, Scott Pellerin (1992) and Paul Kariya (1993). Among the former Black Bears who have been semi-finalists over the years - Dave Capuano, Jean-Yves Roy, Jim Montgomery, Steve Kariya, Greg Moore, Gustav Nyquist and Spencer Abbott.
