It took three overtimes to decide the two regular season meetings between the Houlton Shiretowners and the Hermon Hawks, so it was only fitting their semifinal game Wednesday night in Bangor should go into extra time.

Just like the regular season contests, the Shiretowners eked out a victory over Hawks. This 47-43 overtime win, however, earned Houlton a trip to their third straight regional finals and a chance to defend their state title.

Hermon came out strong in the second half, swapping the lead with Houlton in the third quarter and building a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. But Houlton was able to tie the contest with 3 seconds left on a Kolleen Bouchard jumper.

Bouchard led the top-seed Houlton with 21 points,15 of which came from the foul line.

Freshman Abbie Worthy had six key points, with those two three-pointers keeping Houlton in the game late in the contest.

Emi Higgins had 12 points for the Hawks, who end their season at 15-5.

The Shiretowners will take on the Foxcroft Academy Ponies for the northern regional championship at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday.
