Houlton Shiretowners Hold Off Mount Desert Island Trojans [GIRLS]

MDI gave the top-ranked Houlton scare Saturday afternoon but, ultimately, the Shiretowners held on for a quarterfinal victory at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The Trojans started slow, scoring only four points in the first quarter and trailing 22-12 at the half. But MDI  turned up the pressure in the second half and closed the gap to a single point in the fourth quarter.

However, with two minutes left in the game, the Shiretowners (18-1) made some key baskets to rebuild the lead, and No. 8 MDI was unable to close the gap, falling to the defending state champions 47-39.

MDI finishes the season at 12-8.

Houlton ws led by Kolleen Bouchard with 18 points.
