Two AEW stars, Brian Cage and Lance Archer, were spotted working on an upcoming film directed by none other than Steven Spielberg himself.

According to a report from PWInsider, the two AEW wrestlers took part in a pro wrestling scene filmed at The Paramount Theater in Long Island, with wrestling legend Chavo Guerrero overseeing the stunts.

PWInsider noted that Guerrero also stepped into the role of referee for the scene,. There’s still no official word on the full plot of Spielberg’s latest project, but it appears at least part of the film will include characters attending a pro wrestling event.

A local report from local paper Huntington Now added a bit more context to the shoot, revealing that the film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo and Colin Firth, with a release expected in June 2026.

An anonymous extra described the experience, saying, "It’s a wrestling scene, with a lot of crowd noise. They brought in some real wrestlers. It was fun and loud."

Meanwhile, The Stunner has confirmed with industry insiders that the film's plot centers around UFOs, with longtime Spielberg collaborator David Koepp, who previously wrote Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, handling the script. Spielberg’s return to science fiction adds an extra layer of intrigue to the project.

Adding an even cooler wrinkle to the story, Guerrero revealed during a March appearance on Busted Open Radio [via Post Wrestling] that Spielberg is actually a longtime wrestling fan.

"I just finished working with Steven Spielberg. Just finished… the movie is still not out yet, and he was a wrestling fan. We were exchanging André the Giant stories and when he used to watch wrestling down at the (Grand) Olympic Auditorium and you know, John Tolos, The Golden Greek used to be one of his favourites and we’re talking about all of this stuff and these are people that I grew up with, that I’ve known since I was a kid and to have that rapport with Spielberg… He was a fan because he got it. He understood the entertainment value of pro wrestling," said Guerrero.

Guerrero’s presence on set makes perfect sense, given his growing reputation as Hollywood’s go-to guy for pro wrestling authenticity. Guerrero has worked as a wrestling stunt coordinator on high-profile projects like GLOW on Netflix, the wrestling drama Heels, and the biopic Cassandro. His knack for bringing realistic, physical storytelling to the screen continues to pay off in major productions like this Spielberg project.

There’s no further timeline yet for when the film will hit theaters beyond the expected May 2026 release, but with Spielberg behind the camera, a script from Koepp, and real wrestlers like Cage and Archer involved, the production should have no trouble making its wrestling scenes feel authentic.
