After 11 years as Bangor High School girls varsity soccer coach, Joe Johnson is stepping down and says he wants a break from coaching.

Johnson's teams won two Class A state championships and five regional titles.

This past fall the Rams finished 10-5-1 and lost in the semi-final round of the playoffs to Camden Hills.

For three years, Johnson was varsity coach for both soccer and basketball. He gave up the basketball spot after 2017.

He will stay on as a teacher at Bangor High school.

Rams athletic director Steve Vanidestine says the search for Johnson's replacement will begin immediately.
